Hunting Areas
LORETO- La Giganta
The
La Giganta mountains rise behind the fishing village
of Loreto up to 5,794 ft. They are a newer mountain
range and contain large amounts of natural spring
water and vegetation for the animals. The views and
landscape are fantastic, however, the trek can be
a bit difficult at times climbing through the canyons
and up the rocks. Hunting in La Giganta is physically
challenging.
LA PAZ
- El Mechudo
The El Mechudo
area begins about a one and one half hour's drive
north from La Paz and travels over gently sloping
mountains painted in a rainbow of colors and atop
the plains into valleys and gorges. This is a much
easier trek and less physically challenging than Loreto.
The bighorn roam between these
two areas and there is an equally great chance of
finding the trophy ram in both areas.
species
The desert bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis)
that roam the areas of Southern Baja California, Mexico
are a subspecies called the "Weemsi" (Ovis
canadensis weemsi).
